AP source: USOC, IOC reach $18 million deal (PA SportsTicker) -

LONDON (AP)—The U.S. Olympic Committee will contribute $18 million to resolve a financial dispute that has strained relations with the IOC, a person with direct knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press. The decision ends an impasse over administrative costs of staging the games.

The USOC and International Olympic Committee announced Thursday they had agreed on a “significant financial contribution” from the American body. The amount was confirmed by a person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the terms are confidential.

The London 2012 Cultural Olympiad initiative Film Nation:Shorts gives 14-25 years olds film-makers the chance to get their work showcased at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

LONDON, Aug 31: The storm clouds are gathering round the head of Lance Armstrong. The record seven-time Tour de France winner has been under intense pressure ever since his fellow American Floyd Landis admitted in an email in April that not only had he taken performance-enhancing drugs when he finished first in the 2006 Tour de France but also he alleged that Armstrong himself had done so in earlier years, when the pair were team colleagues.

USOC says keeping HQs in town is worth the expense -

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP)—By keeping its headquarters in Colorado Springs, the U.S. Olympic Committee will keep 722 jobs in the city with a combined payroll and benefits of $55 million, according to a study being finalized for the federation.

The USOC’s CEO, Scott Blackmun, rolled out those figures Tuesday at a luncheon attended by key business leaders in the city, where there has been a healthy debate about spending more than $53 million to keep the headquarters in town for the next 30 years.

Architect of China’s Beijing triumph retires (Reuters) -

BEIJING, Aug 18 (Reuters) - China’s deputy sports minister Cui Dalin, the architect of the medal table-topping triumph at the Beijing Olympics, has retired at the age of 60, state media reported on Wednesday.

Cui was in charge of competitive sports in the state system for the four years running up to what he described as “an historic breakthrough” at the 2008 Olympics, where Chinese athletes won 51 golds and 100 medals in all.

Body freezes salaries for senior managers -

LONDON (AP)—The Olympic group responsible for building the venues for the 2012 London Games says its senior managers will not receive a pay increase this year.

The Olympic Delivery Authority said Thursday it will also defer a proportion of bonuses eligible to directors until after the games.

ODA chief executive David Higgins recently topped a list of the highest paid public officials in Britain with a salary of $595,000.
