Switzerland earns Olympic bronze in men’s curling -

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Ralph Stoeckli put aside all his near misses and earned Olympic bronze in thrilling fashion, scoring two points with his final rock Saturday to give Switzerland a 5-4 victory over Sweden in men's curling.

Stoeckli and the Swiss were fourth at the 2009 world championships and fifth in the 2006 Winter Olympics.

VANCOUVER -- Anette Norberg is Sweden's golden girl, again, and Canada's Cheryl Bernard will spend years thinking about the gold that got away.

Norberg defended the Olympic title she won four years ago in Turin by beating Canada's Cheryl Bernard 7-6, stealing the winning point in an extra end in the women's curling gold-medal game Friday at the Vancouver Olympic Centre in front of a crowd that included Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Swedish King Carl Gustaf.

Sweden win women’s gold -

VANCOUVER (Reuters) - The Swedish women, led by veteran Anette Norberg, blocked out a high-decibel crowd cheering for Canada to knock over the home team in a tense match and defend their Olympic curling gold medal.

Sports

Norberg suffered some rare miscues early on but fought back to beat Cheryl Bernard's Canadians 7-6 in the extra end.

The Italian pair of Anna Cappellini, in black, and Luca Lanotte, wearing a white dress shirt with denim-looking pants, overtook Canada's Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier, scoring 167.32, in the 2010 Olympics ice dance finals. Fourteen more pairs have yet to take their final spin on the ice. The Italian pair chose the dramatic piece Requiem for a Dream as their soundtrack.

Hungarians Nora Hoffman and Maxim Zavozin then came on with a hip-hop take at the beginning of their program. Hoffman dressed like a young Madonna, in hot pink and black layers. They chose retro syth-pop and R&B pieces So Excited, Hush Hush, and Rock this Party, which included the memorable C&C Music Factory sample "Everybody Dance Now." The Hungarians scored 83.12, which place them into second place with a total score of 167.32.

VANCOUVER - It was a unique sensation for Cheryl Bernard late Thursday afternoon at the Vancouver Olympic Centre.

After two games of trying to collect her thoughts in the hack and block out the constant crowd noise, the Team Canada skip had to deal with something completely different.

VANCOUVER '€” Cheryl Bernard'€™s Team Canada foursome walked a tight-rope to victory Wednesday morning at the Vancouver Olympic Centre.

Bernard improved to 2-0 in the women'€™s curling tournament with a 7-6 triumph over Japan'€™s Moe Meguro in a topsy-turvy game that wasn'€™t secure until Bernard made an open takeout to score two in the 10th end.
