Manchester to welcome Brazil
23 Aug 2010The Brazilian Paralympic team became the latest nation to sign up to train in Manchester ahead of the London 2012 Paralympic Games
The agreement will see the team take part in a training camp over nine days in August 2012, with around 170 athletes and 80 staff making use of facilities at Sportcity including the athletics track, gym, national squash centre and national tennis centre.
Sheldon Phillips, Head of Regional Major Events at the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) said: “Brazil is one of the largest Paralympic teams to compete at London 2012, so to have the team training here in Manchester is very prestigious

Greenwich Park ground preparation work begins for 2012
09 Aug 2010Work will begin this week at Greenwich Park to make it ready to host the Olympic Equestrian competition in 2012. The work will be carried out by sub-contractors working on behalf of the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG), in association with The Royal Parks.
The work has been approved by the local planning authority, Greenwich Council, which granted planning permission in March 2010 for both the Test Event in 2011 and events in 2012, subject to a number of planning conditions. LOCOG is now taking action on a number of these planning conditions, which have been agreed with the four statutory consultees: The Royal Parks, English Heritage, Natural England and Sport England.

International Inspiration programme reaches six million young people worldwide
29 Jul 2010Three of Britain’s most celebrated Olympians – Sebastian Coe, Dame Kelly Holmes, and Sir Steve Redgrave –today visited a New Delhi school participating in the London 2012 International Inspiration programme, which has now taken sport to over six million young people in challenging situations worldwide.
The International Inspiration programme is based on the London 2012 vision of using the inspirational power of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to connect more young people with sport around the world. 13 countries are already part of International Inspiration and the programme is on target to reach 12 million young people in 20 countries by 2012.
Seb Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: ‘International Inspiration –the programme we committed to in Singapore in 2005 when we presented to the IOC and were awarded the right to host the 2012 Games, is an inspiring reality, and is leaving a truly global legacy from the 2012 Games.’

Nigeria becomes latest country to benefit from International Inspiration
26 Jul 2010Nigeria has become the latest country to join London 2012's official international legacy programme, International Inspiration.
Nigeria is the fourth African country to be chosen to participate in this
unique project, which aims to inspire and enable 12 million children in 20 countries around the world to play sport.

London 2012 venues on track to be finished next year

In summer 2009, the ODA set out 10 milestones – ‘The Big Build: Structures’ – outlining how the main structures of the London 2012 venues and essential new infrastructure would take shape and be nearing completion by this summer.
