London 2012 outlines vision for welcoming the Olympic Flame to the UK

26 May 2010The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today announced that the Olympic Flame will arrive in the UK on Friday 18 May 2012 and will travel around the UK for 70 days, arriving in London the weekend before the 2012 Games begin.

Vancouver, BC — To help children and teenagers in Haiti rebuild after the devastating earthquake there on January 12, a $300,000 CAD donation has been made to UNICEF to commemorate the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Truce and to serve as a lasting legacy of Canada’s Games.

Olympic torch rerouted twice to avoid protesters -

VANCOUVER (AP) -- Various groups from an impoverished section of downtown joined forces Friday morning and caused the Olympic torch relay to change course twice, a small but satisfying victory for protest organizers.

"Community 1, Torch 0!" Lauren Gill of the Homes Not Games faction hollered into a megaphone following the first detour, drawing cheers from dozens of protesters scurrying to get to the second site.

VANCOUVER (Reuters) - The Olympic torch relay just got bigger, much bigger.

At 106 days, the pre-Vancouver Winter Games run weighs in as the longest domestic relay in Olympic history and to help get it across the finish line ... Arnie is back.

Famous for his "I'll be back' and "Hasta la vista, baby' catchphrases in the Terminator films, Arnold Schwarzenegger, now Governor of California, is nipping over to Canada to flex his pecs with a torch run through Vancouver's famous Stanley Park.

In a country where putting on skates and hitting the rink is a natural thing, it seemed like a perfect marriage to include the most loved and popular sport in Canada — hockey — with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay worked together to develop the CHL Olympic Torch Relay Promo Night program.
