Austria defends ski jumping team title -

WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP)—The Austrians have soared to the gold medal in the Olympic team ski jump, capped by 20-year-old Gregor Schlierenzauer’s final amazing 146.5-meter jump.

Austria defended its title from the Turin Games with 1,107.9 points Monday.

Ski jumping: High hopes for Swiss leaper Ammann -

Whistler (AFP) - World Cup leader Simon Ammann said he has high hopes for a medal in the ski jumping after qualification for the Normal Hill competition as the 2010 Olympic Winter Games got underway on Friday.

With the opening ceremony taking place in Vancouver on Friday, the first competitive event of the games began at Whistler Olympic Park as 51 jumpers battled for the 40 available places with the world's top 10 already through.

Whistler (AFP) - Former Olympic gold medallist Martin Schmitt on Friday booked his place in qualification for Saturday's Normal Hill final as the 2010 Olympic Games got underway.

With the opening ceremony taking place in Vancouver on Friday, the first competitive event of the games began at Whistler Olympic Park as 51 jumpers battled for the 40 available places with the world's top 10 already through.

Whistler (AFP) - Few have touched the heights in more spectacular - and unexpected - fashion than Swiss ski jumping star Simon Ammann.

But don't think for a minute that two Olympic golds mean the 28-year-old, who started his Olympic career aged just 16, has lost his appetite.
