on Monday following the country’s dismal showing at last month’s
Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
“Unfortunately, our Olympic performances could not be called
satisfying, therefore I have decided to resign as FLGR
president,” Loginov, who has headed the FLGR since 2004, said in
a statement.

LONDON, March 17 (Reuters) - British showjumper and
four-times Olympian Michael Whitaker has had a ban from
competing in the 2012 London Games lifted by the British Olympic
Association (BOA).
The 50-year-old Whitaker was fined and suspended from
competition for four months when his horse Tackeray tested
positive for a banned substance at an event in France last May.
Under a BOA byelaw, he was then automatically rendered
ineligible to represent Britain at future Olympics.
The BOA said in a statement that his eligibility for
selection had been restored on appeal because there were
significant mitigating circumstances.

TOKYO, March 15 (Reuters) - The Japanese women’s rugby team
for the 2016 Olympics could be made up of a fearsome mixture of
rough-and-tumble martial arts experts.
The karate-kicking hopefuls were joined by judoka among a
total of 88 women who took part in a tryout for the Japan
Women’s Rugby Football Federation at the weekend.
“I thought the scrum and tackling looked so cool,” former
world junior karate champion Aya Waterhouse told Monday’s Nikkan
Sports.

Citizens urged to keep travelling smart as changes to the road network remain for Paralympic Winter Games
Vancouver, BC – The Olympic and Paralympic Transportation Team (OPTT) today thanked the people of Metro Vancouver and the Sea to Sky regions for making the 2010 integrated Olympic transportation plan a success, while urging people to keep traveling smart in view of changes to the transportation network for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
Transportation planners – charged with one of the most complex and critical elements of the Games – set the lofty goal of achieving at least a 30 per cent reduction in vehicle use during the Olympic Games, in order to ensure athletes, officials and others could get to their events on time and local residents could move efficiently.

VANCOUVER ' Now the real work starts. With the Olympics over and the Paralympics yet to take place, some of the venues no longer needed are starting to be cleaned out and returned to the public.
But don't expect to get back on to ski slopes or into hockey rinks and community centres too soon, with the exception of weather-plagued Cypress.
