Wheelchair curling: Skip’s ice sense often sends team to the top -

As an able-bodied curler, Jim Armstrong competed at the Brier six times, where he became the only curler to win the Ross Harstone Award for Sportsmanship and Ability three times. The award was voted on by his peers.  Dallas Bittle/World Curling Federation, Vancouver Sun files

VANCOUVER - Whether it's the able-bodied or the wheelchair version of curling, one adage holds true: The skip that's the quickest in getting a handle on the ice conditions usually has his team come out on top.

With Team Canada skipped by six-time Brier participant Jim Armstrong at the helm that is expected to be the home team's big edge at the 2010 Paralympic wheelchair event.

Martin sweeps opening games in men’s curling -

VANCOUVER '€” In the end, it was a draw to the four-foot for the victory, and as Team Canada vice-skip John Morris put it, "I don't think he's missed too many of those in his career."

Well, in fact, there was one, and the man Canadian skip Kevin Martin (with different teammates then) missed it against back in the 2002 Winter Olympics gold-medal game, Pal Trulsen, was sitting right behind him Tuesday morning at the Vancouver Olympic Centre as the national coach of the Norwegian team Martin was about to defeat in an extra end.

Marrying hockey and the Olympic Torch Relay -

In a country where putting on skates and hitting the rink is a natural thing, it seemed like a perfect marriage to include the most loved and popular sport in Canada — hockey — with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay worked together to develop the CHL Olympic Torch Relay Promo Night program.
