ZURICH (AP)—Iran’s girls’ soccer team has been thrown out of the Youth
Olympics because FIFA rules prevent players from wearing an Islamic head scarf.
The governing body for Asian soccer said on its Web site Monday that
Thailand was to replace Iran.
The Asian Football Confederation says the hijab scarf—worn to observe
Islamic dress code—was not allowed under FIFA rules relating to on-field
equipment.

ZURICH (AP)—Iran’s girls football team has been kicked out of the Youth
Olympic Games because FIFA rules prevent players wearing an Islamic head scarf.
Thailand was nominated on Monday to replace the barred Iranians, the Asian
Football Confederation said on its Web site.
The Asian governing body said the hijab scarf—worn to observe Islamic
dress code—was not allowed under FIFA rules relating to on-field equipment.

Whistler (AFP) - Marjan Kalhor became Iran's first female to compete at a Winter Olympic Games on Wednesday and said she hoped to inspire others take part in major sporting events.
The 21-year-old, wearing a pink head scarf beneath her safety helmet to comply with Islamic dress code, was 68th and last after the first of two runs of the giant slalom, 21.75sec behind leader Elisabeth Goergl of Austria.

Dizin (AFP) - Marjan Kalhor, who never imagined she would one day become the first Iranian woman to take part in the Olympic Winter Games, insists her moment of history will not fall foul of her country's conservative rulers.
Kalhor will compete in the Alpine slalom and giant slalom categories at the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games from February 12 to 28.
