Youth flame dress rehearsal goes smoothly -

ANCIENT OLYMPIA, Greece (AP)—Greek officials have conducted a full dress rehearsal for the lighting of the Olympic flame that will burn at the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore next month.

Standing in front of the 2,600-year-old Temple of Hera, an actress dressed as an ancient priestess used a concave mirror to light a silver torch with the sun’s rays Thursday.

Canadian Olympic athletes have more opportunities to cash in -

CANMORE, Alta. '€” Win an Olympic gold medal as an American, an Australian, an European or an Asian and there'€™s a very good chance you'€™ll be set for life financially.

Yet, it'€™s only a handful of highly decorated and visible Canadian amateur athletes who will be able to cash on their Olympic successes. But the latest group of medallists from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics say that while it still takes a lot of knocking, there are more opportunities now than ever before.

Paralympic wheelchair curling: Team Canada wins gold -

Canada beat Sweden 10-5 to advance to the gold-medal game in wheelchair curling at the Paralympic Games.  Jim Armstrong's crew will face Korea in the final, following Korea's 7-5 victory over the United States. Team Canada successfully defended its 2006 Paralymic wheelchair curling gold medal Saturday, defeating Korea 8-7 in the final played before a capacity crowd of 5,500 at the Hillcrest facility.

Vanoc’s John Furlong ‘just exhausted’ as Vancouver Games come to an end -

WHISTLER '€” An exhausted John Furlong said Sunday he is happy the arduous road to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and Paralympics is virtually over.

Looking wan and tired, and occasionally downcast, Furlong told reporters at a closing press conference his energetic "blue jackets" '€” the volunteer backbone of two remarkable Games '€” may wish for another week of fun, but he certainly doesn't.

Russians repeat as gold medalists in women’s Paralympic ski relay -

WHISTLER '€” Russia repeated as Paralympic women's cross-country relay champions on Saturday, beating out the Ukraine by 19.5 seconds at Whistler Paralympic Park.

Canada was fourth, missing a medal by 17 seconds.

Maria Iovleva, Mikhalina Lysova and Liubov Vasilyeva crossed in a time of 20 minutes 23.3 seconds to claim Russia's 10th gold and 29th medal of these Games, by far the most of any nation.

VANCOUVER - They wrapped up first place in the round robin Wednesday, but Canada still doesn't know its semifinal playoff opponent at the 2010 Paralympic wheelchair curling event.
