LONDON/MUNICH, Jul 17: Willy Bogner has rejected suggestions of a crisis over Munich’s 2018 Winter Olympics bid. Bogner, bid ceo, was responding to media questions after claims of a disagreement over proposals for the involvement of nearby Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The unique feature of the Munich bid is that, if it beat off competition from Annecy and PyeongChang when the IOC votes next July it would be the first city to have hosted both summer and winter Games. But that involves staging some ice events at Konigsee as well as Alpine events in Garmisch.

Whistler (AFP) - Norway's Marit Bjoergen is hoping it will be third-time lucky on Monday in her quest for gold in the women's 10km cross-country freestyle race as she bids to avoid yet another runner-up finish.
The 29-year-old won silver medals in both the 4x5km relay at Salt Lake City in 2002 and the 10km classcial race in Torino in 2006, but overall World Cup leader Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland starts as favourite.

WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP)—After postponing the first two Alpine events,
the International Ski Federation revamped the schedule for the Vancouver
Olympics to try to squeeze seven races into seven days.
The plan came about after the competition-opening men’s downhill was
postponed Saturday because of warm, wet weather that’s turned the slopes to
mush.

Vancouver (AFP) - US alpine skiing star Lindsey Vonn revealed Wednesday that she is suffering with a bruised shin that causes "excruciating pain" and will have a difficult time competing at the Olympic Winter Games.
Speaking on the Today program of US Olympic telecaster NBC, Vonn said she still plans to ski in five races but might drop out of events if her injury does not improve.
