LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP)—Italian cyclist Davide Rebellin lost an appeal Friday of a decision stripping him of his 2008 Olympic silver medal for doping. He could now be suspended by cycling’s governing body and stripped of other race results.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the International Olympic Committee was right to disqualify Rebellin after he tested positive for the banned blood-boosting drug CERA.

LONDON (AP)—Olympic organizers will install designated routes on 2.5 percent of London’s roads to help athletes, officials and dignitaries get around the congested city during the 2012 Games.

A total of 105 miles of roads will be designated an Olympic Route Network. Traffic signals will be adjusted and roadwork suspended to speed passage from central London to the Olympic Park in the east of the city and other venues, including Wembley Stadium.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP)—With the economy spiraling downward and sponsors running away faster than Usain Bolt, the Olympics needed money.

Big money.

And fast.

So, leaders of Olympic organizations started thinking outside the box, peddling their famous rings to new companies, selling multimillion-dollar sponsorship deals to pretty much anyone willing to pay the price.

In the past few weeks, the International and U.S. Olympic committees have announced a flurry of deals—a long-awaited sign that big-money sponsors are returning to the rings. The deals, however, have made for some strange bedfellows—a handful of partnerships that, at first blush, don’t look like natural fits:

BEIJING (AP)—A top China sports official says the country will have no tolerance for age falsification as it prepares to send a 70-athlete delegation to the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore next month.

China has been dogged by accusations of athlete age falsification. Earlier this year, its women’s gymnastics team from the 2000 Sydney Olympics was stripped of its bronze medal after an investigation found one of the athletes was too young to be eligible to compete.

29 Jul 2010Three of Britain’s most celebrated Olympians – Sebastian Coe, Dame Kelly Holmes, and Sir Steve Redgrave –today visited a New Delhi school participating in the London 2012 International Inspiration programme, which has now taken sport to over six million young people in challenging situations worldwide.
The International Inspiration programme is based on the London 2012 vision of using the inspirational power of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to connect more young people with sport around the world. 13 countries are already part of International Inspiration and the programme is on target to reach 12 million young people in 20 countries by 2012.

Seb Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: ‘International Inspiration –the programme we committed to in Singapore in 2005 when we presented to the IOC and were awarded the right to host the 2012 Games, is an inspiring reality, and is leaving a truly global legacy from the 2012 Games.’

LONDON(AP)—The world’s largest consumer products company signed on as a global Olympic sponsor Wednesday, the second multi-million-dollar marketing deal this month for the International Olympic Committee.

IOC president Jacques Rogge unveiled the 10-year agreement with American-based giant Procter & Gamble Co. at a news conference in London.
